More than 30 children’s wishes will be granted by Cork County Council next month as part of the National Day of Creativity programme for Cruinniú na nÓg 2025.

Under the council’s Library and Arts Service, 1,000 wish submissions were made from children across the county seeking help in becoming songwriters, artists, poets, and performers.

The 30-plus successful submissions will have their wishes granted at events across Cork as part of the National Day of Creativity for young people, on June 7.

Some successful submissions include a student from Whitegate National School, who wished to become an artist; a student from Kyle Community School, who wished to become a writer; and a student from Burnfort National School, who wished to become a songwriter.

“The young people in our county have demonstrated an immense wealth of creativity,” Mayor of the County of Cork Joe Carroll said.

“Through My Creative Wish, we have seen the ambition of our youth to become actors, writers, dancers, designers, and so much more.

“We are delighted to have an opportunity to help them realise their ambitions and to make their wishes come true.

“We truly believe that every person in Cork should have the opportunity to realise their full creative potential and Cruinniú na nÓg supports this ambition.”

This year’s programme of events has been curated by the children of Cork through the My Creative Wish initiative.

Showcase events will feature works, stories, and performances of young people who have been working with professional artists in recent weeks, with further workshops open to the public in libraries on comic and zine making, as well as architecture and fashion design.

This year’s celebration will also see a late-night event for the first time, delivered as part of Cruinniú na nÓg.

The Electronic Music Council will teach young people in Youth Reach Mallow how to DJ and they will later perform at a disco.
