A 57-year-old man caught with €6,000 of cannabis back in 2022 has been given a 14-month suspended sentence.
Anthony Cronin of 117, Ard Bhaile, Mayfield, Cork, pleaded guilty to charges of possession of cannabis and having the cannabis for the purpose of sale or supply to others at his home on August 2, 2022.
Judge Dermot Sheehan said that to have a man of 57 years of age before the court for having drugs for sale or supply was a different kind of case.
“The DPP was happy to deal with the case at district court but the district court judge said it exceeded her jurisdiction, and I am inclined to agree with her. Two and a half years would be the headline sentence.
“Because of his signed plea of guilty I will reduce it to 14 months on the Section 15. I will suspend that sentence.”
“Thank you, Judge,” the defendant said. He was represented by defence barrister Elaine Audley at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
The drugs seized in the case had a street value of €6,000.
