Cork’s Blackrock Rd is currently closed, with diversions in place, following a road traffic collision earlier today, and is expected to remain closed for some time this evening.

According to An Garda Síochána, no serious injuries have been reported after a car struck a wall on the Blackrock Rd, causing the wall to partially collapse.

It is understood that the decision to close the road was taken due to the amount of debris scattered on the road due to the collapse of the wall.

The incident occurred just before 3pm on Sunday afternoon, and gardaí and emergency services attended the scene.

It is understood that the debris will be cleared by workers from Cork City Council, but the road is expected to remain closed until further notice.

A garda statement issued just after 6pm said: “Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision in Ballintemple, Cork city.

“The collision in which a car struck a wall on the Blackrock Road occurred at approximately 2:50pm this afternoon, Sunday, May 11. No serious injuries have been reported at this time.

“The road is closed and local diversions are in place."

Cork City Council was asked for comment.
