Eleven students from Munster Technological University (MTU) have been awarded the first, second, and third prizes in the media/video category at the Smarter Travel Student Awards 2025 for their video campaigns promoting sustainable methods of transport.

First prize went to students from MTU’s Bachelor of Business (marketing) programme, among them Daria Samoilenko, Kateryna Tudurian, Anastasiia Kravchenko and Siméon Monvoisin, for their entry Destress Express, which showcases the Local Link bus service as a low stress and sustainable mode of transport.

Second prize went to Luke Benson, Sean Browne, Daniel Moore, and Jack Lawlor for their MTU Health Cycle Club video, and third prize went to Liadh Beazley, Katie Murphy, and Aimee Coffey for their Carepool Karaoke video.

Sheila O’Mahony, MTU lecturer, was honoured with a special recognition award for her guidance and mentorship of participating students.

Mary Rose Stafford, executive head of the School of Business, Computing & Humanities, said the achievement reflected the hard work and dedication of MTU students and staff.

"At MTU, we are committed to nurturing creativity, critical thinking and sustainability awareness, all vital skills for future leaders in business and marketing,” she said.

The awards are organised by the National Transport Authority (NTA) and invite third-level students across Ireland to create projects that encourage sustainable travel to, from, and around campuses.

This year's ceremony was held at the Lighthouse Cinema, Dublin, judged by an independent panel of experts.
