The plans will see part demolition and refurbishment of the former gardener’s lodge on-site, which has been disused for an extended period of time, to provide for the interpretive centre and cafe.

The development will include 305 residential units comprising a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bed detached, semi-detached, townhouse/terraced and bungalow units, as well as 164 apartment/duplex units, comprising of a mix of one- and two-beds.

The development will also see provisions made for car parking, cycle parking, new pedestrian/cycle links, storage facilities, and plant areas.

The application, which was granted planning permission by Cork County Council on April 23, is subject to 76 conditions.

One condition stipulates that in the interest of sustainable transportation, all of the communal parking areas serving the residential units shall be provided with functional electric vehicle charging points, and all the in-curtilage car parking spaces serving residential units shall be provided with electric connections to the exterior of the houses, to allow for the provision of electric vehicle charging points.

Another condition stipulates that, in the interest of public safety and orderly development, any damage to the road surface during the course of construction shall be repaired to the satisfaction of the local authority at the expense of the applicant.
