Mr Satchwell (58), with an address at Grattan Street, Youghal, Co Cork was arraigned before the Central Criminal Court this afternoon.

Richard Satchwell will go on trial tomorrow accused of murdering his wife Tina at their Cork home over eight years ago.

Mr Satchwell (58), with an address at Grattan Street, Youghal, Co Cork was arraigned before the Central Criminal Court this afternoon.

He is charged with murdering his 45-year-old wife Tina Satchwell at that address between March 19 and March 20, 2017, both dates inclusive.

When the registrar read the indictment to Mr Satchwell today and asked him how he was pleading, the accused replied: "Not guilty".

Dressed in a blue checked shirt and navy trousers, Mr Satchwell sat in the dock with his arms folded as the 12 jurors were selected.

Mr Justice Kerida Naidoo swore in a jury of five men and seven women to hear the trial, which will begin before Mr Justice Paul McDermott on Tuesday morning and is expected to last six weeks.

Mr Justice Naidoo told the jury panel that the case would conclude by June 5.

The prosecution case is being led by senior counsel Gerardine Small, while Brendan Grehan SC is heading up the defence team.

Addressing the jury panel this afternoon, Mr Justice Naidoo pointed out to the potential jurors that there has been "a certain amount of reporting" about the case, which he said there was "nothing wrong with" and can be common particularly with an allegation of murder.

"But if you have heard anything in particular about the case and believe you would have difficulty dealing with it objectively do let me know," he added.

On March 26 last year, Mr Satchwell was sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court after being served with the book of evidence.
