Three students have been recognised by the North Monastery Past Pupils Union for their school leadership and academic achievements.

The students, one from each of the schools that comprise the North Monastery CBS campus, were presented with awards at a special luncheon held at the Clayton Hotel, and sponsored by Gurranabraher Credit Union.

Among those in attendance was Fine Gael city councillor Damian Boylan, himself a past pupil of the North Monastery, who was deputising for the Lord Mayor, Green Party councillor Dan Boyle, who is an alumnus of Scoil Chríost Rí and Coláiste Chríost Rí.

Also in attendance were the principals and vice principals of the three schools, Scoil Mhuire Fatima, Scoil Mathair na Síorchabhrach, and Gaelcholáiste Mhuire AG.

Other attendees at the luncheon included the parents of students, members of the North Monastery PPU committee, as well as members of the management team from the Gurranabraher Credit Union.

The students who received the awards were: Caine Wolfe from Scoil Mhuire Fatima, Darren O’Callaghan from Mathair na Síorchabhrach, and Cáit Ní Chéilleachair from Gaelcholáiste Mhuire AG.

The students were presented with their awards by Michael O’Connell, who is chairman of Gurranabraher Credit Union, the event’s sponsors, and a former lord mayor of Cork, and by Jim Mullins, president of the North Monastery PPU.

Mr Mullins said that the PPU student awards lunch was a significant annual occasion marked as a stand-alone event by the PPU.

“The mission of the north monastery past pupils union is to be as relevant as possible to all the stakeholders associated with the schools, including students, staff, parents and past pupils,” Mr Mullins said.

“The annual PPU dinner was held recently, with a record number in attendance, and included a large number of former North Monastery pupils.

“We probably have one of the most active past pupils union in the country and we believe that it is important to continuously give something back,” Mr Mullins added.
