Bail was granted to a man accused of shoplifting at JD Sports in Cork despite garda objections but the judge made it a condition of bail that he would stay out of every JD Sports outlet in the country.
Garda Gerald Murray objected to bail being granted to 31-year-old Atal Adel of no fixed address at Cork District Court on the basis that gardaí believe he would commit more offences if granted bail.
Judge Treasa Kelly acceded to the application made on the defendant’s behalf by solicitor Eddie Burke and remanded Atal Adel on bail until May 14.
He is charged with theft at JD Sports on Patrick Street, Cork, on April 19.
He is also charged with handling stolen property at Dunnes Stores in Ballincollig on April 21.
It was alleged by Garda Murray that the accused had stolen property in his bag and also had a roll of tinfoil without offering an explanation for this.
