A new pedestrian bridge was lifted into place across the River Lee yesterday, linking Crosse’s Green to the Beamish & Crawford site.

Part of the Beamish & Crawford Quarter public realm renewal scheme, the new bridge is one of two pedestrian bridges to be installed as part of the works.

The second bridge, which will go from Lamley’s Lane to Wandesford Quay, is currently being constructed off-site and is due to be installed in early summer.

The new paving on South Main St is set to be completed in the coming weeks.

Fianna Fáil city councillor Seán Martin said the ongoing developments were part of a larger €45m investment made in the area of the city.

“It’s good news, in that it’s another positive step for South Main St and the surrounding area, and the two new bridges, once completed, will be part of a plan by Cork City Council to revitalise the area around South Main St, the Grand Parade, and Washington St, after years of dereliction,” Mr Martin said.
