Gardaí in Cork say investigations are ongoing following a city centre attack yesterday which left a man in his 30s in hospital with injuries described as “serious but not life-threatening.

Gardaí in Cork say investigations are ongoing following a city centre attack yesterday which left a man in his 30s in hospital with injuries described as "serious but not life-threatening".

They continue to appeal for witnesses to the assault which occurred on Wellington Rd at around 11.40am yesterday., 

Gardaí and emergency services responded quickly to the incident and a man in his 30s, injured in the attack, was taken to hospital.

The scene of the incident was sealed off for a time yesterday afternoon as a technical examination of the scene was carried out.

Gardaí are anxious to talk to anyone who might have witnessed the assault, and have asked that anyone who was been travelling in the Wellington Rd and Military Hill area between 11am and midday yesterday and has camera footage, including dash-cam, to come forward.

In a statement issued this morning, the Garda Press Office said: “Gardaí and emergency services responded to a report of an assault on Wellington Road in Cork city at approximately 11.40am on Wednesday morning, March 19.

“A male in his 30s was injured in the course of the incident and was transferred to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious but not believed to be life-threatening injuries. A technical examination of the scene has since been conducted.

“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward,” the statement said.

Investigations, gardaí said, are ongoing.
