Cork disability multi sports club Rebel Wheelers is holding their ‘Roll With Rebel Wheelers’ fundraising event on April 5 at Neptune Stadium to raise vital funds for the club.

A fundraising event which Rebel Wheelers has hosted annually since 2018, the club is inviting teams of between five and 15 players to try out the sport of wheelchair basketball, with each team playing a series of games throughout the day.

In addition to raising much-needed funds for the club in general, money raised from the event also will go towards covering the costs of the Rebel Wheelers senior basketball team’s trip to Sardinia in Italy to compete in the IWBF EuroCup competition in May.

Rebel Wheelers will be the first ever Irish wheelchair basketball team to compete in this competition.

Coaching

On the day of the fundraiser, each team that enters will have a one hour slot, during which time they will receive a pre-game briefing and coaching from one of the members of the Rebel Wheelers senior team.

There will also be action packed matches involving rival teams.

There will be refreshments on the day and a raffle will also be held.

The Rebel Wheelers basketball team has grown significantly over the last 15 years.

At present they have an academy, a junior team and a senior team.

Rebel Wheelers is a multi sports club, part of Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) Sport.

Rebel Wheelers was established in 2008 to facilitate children who were eager to participate in all types of physical activities with an emphasis on sports.

It is run by parents and volunteers. The club is funded almost entirely by fundraising events. All funds go straight back into the club to run their programmes, purchase equipment, cover hall hire and transport costs.

For further information, or for details on how to enter a team, contact Rebel Wheelers on social media or call Eileen Simpson on 086-1584927.
