Blackrock Castle Observatory has invited the public to witness a partial solar eclipse on March 29 in a safe and welcoming environment.
The viewing, which will take place at the observatory from 9:30am to 12:30pm on the day, is an opportunity for people of all ages to witness a rare celestial event and learn about astronomy.
The eclipse is set to begin at 9:57am, with maximum coverage at 10:55am.
The event will end at 12pm, with an opportunity for questions from local astronomy experts.
Niall Smith, head of research at Munster Technological University and head of Blackrock Castle Observatory, explained that as the moon moves between Earth and the sun, it will block out roughly 42% of the sun’s disk at its peak.
Even partial eclipses, Mr Smith said, "are truly remarkable to witness" adding that the observatory is thrilled to host the event.
Blackrock Castle Observatory will have safe solar-viewing glasses available as solar eclipses must never be viewed without proper protection.
