US band returns to perform at Macroom gala concert

Coming all the way from Philadelphia in the USA, The Woodland String Band will be performing in a gala concert at the Briery Gap in Macroom during the upcoming bank holiday weekend.

The concert, on March 15, is a landmark one for band, who will be marking the 25th anniversary of their first visit to the town.

The band are from the Southwest neighbourhood of Philadelphia, with a 100-year history, and 25 of those years are connected to playing in Macroom. 

Over the decades the band has performed for dignitaries such as US presidents Franklin D Roosevelt, John F Kennedy and Richard M Nixon.

In the years since their first visit, the band has brought over 2,600 visitors to Macroom. As part of the Woodland String Band gala celebration, the visitors will also be joined by the Céilí All Stars.

The concert takes place at 8pm on March 15 at the Briery Gap.
