UCC academic receives international recognition with inclusion on list of top global thinkers

Aodh Quinlivan, a senior lecturer in politics at University College Cork, has received global recognition on a list of top global thinkers in the area of local government and public policy.

A UCC academic has received global recognition, featuring on a list of top global thinkers, in the area of local government and public policy.

Aodh Quinlivan was recognised by the Local Government Information Unit, an influential British-based not-for-profit organisation which recently launched the Future Local Lab — a programme of resources to help local governments prepare for and respond to the emerging challenges facing the sector internationally. The Local Government Information Unit also released a list of the top 25 thinkers in the sector.

Mr Quinlivan is a senior lecturer in politics at UCC, where he also serves as the director of the Centre for Local and Regional Governance.

He has published widely in the area of local government, including 10 books.

His most recent book published in 2024 is Democracy on Your Doorstep: 125 Years of Local Elections in Ireland, 1899-2024.

His next book, set to be published this year, will profile 12 women who have made a contribution towards the development of local government in Cork.
