A young woman attending a party had a pint glass thrown into her face at a function room leaving her with a permanent mark and now a woman who admitted the attack has had sentencing adjourned until May.
Garda Richard O’Donovan outlined the background to the assault at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
Carla O’Driscoll of 16, Blackwater Grove, Togher, Cork, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing harm to the other young woman on November 17, 2023.
Garda O’Donovan said Ms O’Driscoll was fully cooperative with the investigation and signed a plea of guilty to the charge.
She had no previous convictions of any kind and is in employment.
The victim impact statement was handed in to court but was not read out publicly.
Defence barrister Brendan Kelly said that while 25-year-old Carla O’Driscoll did not have a specific recollection of the incident she did identify herself on CCTV of the assault which was shown to her.
Ms O’Driscoll brought a total of €1,000 compensation to court out of limited person means.
Judge Dermot Sheehan said the accused would have to look again at the issue of compensation in light of the injured party being left with a permanent visible mark on her face as a result of this assault.
Sentencing was adjourned until May 21.
The incident occurred at the Route Fourteen premises on Togher Road on the night of birthday celebrations.
