US clothing retailer Urban Outfitters is seeking permission to revamp the former Dorothy Perkins location at 101 Patrick St.
The plans, submitted last week to Cork City Council by Urban Retail Ireland Ltd, the retailer’s parent company, request permission for the installation of external hanging and fascia signage, as well as the internal retail fit-out to ground and first floor levels.
The planning documents are requesting permission for the installation of external hanging and fascia signage, as well as the internal retail fit-out to ground and first floor levels.
Proposed works at the protected structure will include the installation of new fitting rooms at first floor level, new balustrades to stairs, new standards, fixed to existing walls, to support merchandising racking and shelving, and minor alterations and adaptions to existing mechanical and electrical systems.
The retailer, known for it’s eclectic collection of clothing and home decor, opened its first store in Ireland at Cecilia House in Temple Bar in 2000, which remains in operation to date.
The retailer’s second Irish store and flagship location opened in 2007, in the outdoor plaza at Dundrum Town Shopping Centre, but later closed after more than a decade of trading in 2018.
This latest application for a Cork store marks the retailer’s first attempt at domestic expansion outside of Dublin, and comes following the opening of three new retailers in the heart of Cork’s shopping district, Victoria’s Secret, Bath & Body Works, and Mountain Warehouse.
Cork City Council is due to make a decision on the application by April 7.
