Last weekend, over 300 general practitioners (GPs) from the Munster region gathered in Cork for the annual Bon Secours Hospital Cork study morning in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

The event, which took place on Saturday, featured nine sessions, each of which was chaired by a GP and featured expert consultants sharing the latest advancements and insights.

The sessions covered a variety of specialties such as cardiology, orthopaedics, gastroenterology, urology, dermatology, paediatrics, and general surgery, including bariatrics and gynaecology.

The event featured a keynote speaker, Neville Murphy, Irish Coast Guard winchman and paramedic, who hosted a session entitled ‘Calm in a Crisis’.

Success

Speaking at the event, Dr Heather Cronin, consultant cardiologist at Bon Secours Hospital Cork and postgraduate consultant chair, said the event had been a success.

“There were fantastic presentations from a wide variety of specialties as well as an insightful look into staying calm in high-pressure situations from our keynote speaker Neville Murphy,” she said.

Dr Triona Marnell, postgraduate GP chair added that the event had featured a great agenda covering an array of topics and she had been delighted to meet so many colleagues.

Harry Canning, CEO of the Bon Secours Hospital Cork said he had been delighted to welcome so many GPs to a fully in-person event this year.

“This gave us an opportunity to meet our colleagues face-to-face to share the latest advancements, new services and consultants available in our hospital.

“Thank you to all who attended and to our fantastic speakers who made it a truly insightful day,” he said.

The Bon Secours Hospital Cork is Ireland’s largest private hospital and one of the largest in Europe, offering a wide range of medical and surgical specialties for adults and children alike.

The hospital, last year, launched a new robotic-assisted surgery programme in urology, gynaecology, and general surgery.

It also opened the Bon Secours Heart and Lung Centre in Cork, Munster’s first private centre dedicated to heart and lung surgery.
