A popular East Cork restaurant, which announced its closure last month, is set to reopen to the public under new ownership.

The Roastie restaurant in Midleton closed its doors on December 15, citing "ever increasing costs" as the main factor in making their decision to close, only five years after opening in 2019.

At the time of the original announcement, former owners Andrew Faltyn and Marcin Moneta stated in a post shared on Facebook that while they were sad to say goodbye to the family-run business, they would now be focusing their efforts on their other Midleton-based establishment.

“Most weeks all our tables are full in the restaurant but with the ever increasing costs, it has become impossible to run a profitable restaurant,” they said.

“We have held on as long as possible, hoping something might change but now we feel it’s time to call it a day.

“We are very sad to see Roastie come to an end but we will now focus all our energy to building on the success of our sister business, Toastie Cafe.”

However, a notice posted on the door of the restaurant this week, located in Midleton town centre, said that ‘Roastie Grill’ will be reopening soon under new ownership, but with “equally amazing cuisine.”

Speaking to The Echo following the most recent development, Social Democrats Cork East TD, Liam Quaide said: “The hospitality industry has faced many challenges in recent years, adapting to the pandemic and escalating business and energy costs.

“Local businesses in East Cork have also shown remarkable resilience and determination, and the community is delighted to see that Roastie's will be reopening."

More information on the planned reopening of Roastie Grill will be posted on the restaurants website at: https://www.roastie.ie/ and via their social media pages.
