A 25-year-old man who breached a domestic order and put his mother and father in fear was released from jail yesterday with a warning from the judge to get himself sorted quickly after being “out of his brains” in court the previous day.

The young man’s parents said on January 14 that their son had an out of control drug problem and that he might need to be kept in jail for a couple of weeks.

The parents have secured an interim barring order against their son but he allegedly breached it by turning up at their home late on Monday night, January 13, and putting them in fear.

Garda Denis Coleman alleged that the young man turned up at the family home drunk and shouting at his parents in a threatening manner.

Eddie Burke solicitor said the young man would go to Cork Simon Community and would go nowhere next or near his parents if given bail.

Judge Mary Dorgan said the young man was in no fit condition to be making an application in court on January 14 and remanded him in custody overnight.

Now she has released him but not before saying to the accused: “I don’t know what you took yesterday but whatever you took you were out of your brains. You need to get yourself sorted and quickly.

“Whoever gave you whatever they gave you, you were bad in the morning and a whole lot worse in the afternoon.”

The young man thanked the judge for releasing him on bail and said: “I accept every point of responsibility. I have the height of respect for my parents.”

Bail includes a condition requiring him to stay away from the area where his family live.

The parties cannot be identified as the case involves an alleged breach under the Domestic Violence Act.
