Children in North Cork village come together to build 12ft snowman

Measuring in at over 12 foot tall, children from the Mulcahy, O’Brien and Finucane families all chipped in to build the impressive looking snowman at Newtownshandrum over the weekend.

Is Newtownshandrum, in Co Cork, where Ireland’s largest snowman was built over the last few days?

Well, that is what a group who built a snowman in the North Cork village are claiming, following the cold, snowy weather of recent days.

Children from the Mulcahy, O’Brien, and Finucane families all played a part in building the impressive-looking, 12ft snowman.

After doing their homework and a Google search, the group set about building a snowman to their targeted height.

Newtownshandrum is steeped in Cork hurling, and several of the children who were involved in building the snowman are players for the local club.

Therefore, it was little surprise that the Newtown colours were donned on top of the snowman.

In their history, Newtownshandrum have won a total of four Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship titles.

Given the team spirit and collective work ethic that was shown in the building of this snowman, do not be surprised if one of the young builders involved brings county championship silverware back to the village in the future!

Local sources told The Echo that this was a very well co-ordinated and organised operation, with a tractor used to place the head of the snowman.
