Hundreds turn out for Palestine solidarity rally in Cork

Hundreds of Palestinian supporters took to the streets of Cork on Saturday afternoon to participate in the weekly march.
More than 600 protesters once again took to the streets of Cork city on Saturday afternoon to express solidarity with the Palestinian people and to celebrate the news of the closing of the Israeli embassy in Dublin earlier this week.
Speaking at the rally, Cork Palestine Solidarity Campaign co-chair Kathy Glavanis described the closure as a victory for activists everywhere.
“It’s a win for our movement, not as something the Irish government have accomplished, but for us as campaigners," she said.
Protest MC Christina Collins said the pro-International law and pro-Palestine call from the Irish public was “so strong that it pierced the apartheid walls of the Israeli embassy in Dublin and it shook it to its very core."
she said.
Among those who attended the rally was the Labour Party Cork city councillor Laura Harmon.
In a video from the march posted on her social media page, Ms Harmon said it was important for Ireland to pass the Occupied Territories Bill.
“At the march for Palestine today in Cork again with friends and Labour colleagues. It’s so important that we pass the Occupied Territories Bill and that this would be a priority for the next government in Ireland," said Ms Harmon.
“We have been marching here in Cork for over 60 weeks now. The crowds are getting bigger and bigger. There is so much support here in Cork for Palestine and the people of Palestine.”
