Iarnród Éireann has announced details of of its Christmas and New Year services for those planning to travel by rail to and from from Cork over the festive period.

On Christmas Eve, a weekday InterCity service will be in operation but with cancellations and alterations on certain routes, with last services between 6pm and 8.30pm approximately.

The Cork Commuter service will operate a normal Saturday service the final Cork to Cobh train departing Kent Station at 8pm and returning to Cork at 8.30pm.  The final Cork to Midleton service will depart at 8.15pm, returning to Kent Station at 8.45pm.

No services

Irish Rail has said there will be no services operating on any routes on Christmas Day and St Stephen’s Day.

From December 27 to January 5 there will be a Saturday service on the Cork commuter routes, with a normal Sunday service in operation for December 29 and January 5.

On New Year’s Eve Tuesday, December 31, the Cork commuter service will operate until 9pm approx. 

There will be a weekday InterCity service but with cancellations and alterations on certain routes, with last services between 6pm and approximately 8.30pm.

New Year’s Day meanwhile will have a Sunday service operating on the Cork commuter routes, with revised and reduced InterCity services.

Usual schedule

Train services will gradually start reverting to their usual schedule from then on, with a full normal timetable back in operation from Monday, January 6 onwards.

Customers are advised to check their before travelling on Intercity, DART and Commuter trains, as there may be schedule alterations throughout this time on each day.

People are also reminded that pre booking for trains is strongly advised on Intercity services, particularly at the busiest times.
