Man jailed after burglary at Cork funeral home

Judge Helen Boyle imposed a jail term of six years with the last two years suspended on 34-year-old Daniel Jackson of Cork Simon Community at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

A four-year jail term was imposed on a Cork man accused of burgling a funeral home and also carrying out burglaries at two neighbouring properties in the Boreenmanna Rd area.

Judge Helen Boyle imposed a jail term of six years, with the last two suspended, on 34-year-old Daniel Jackson of Cork Simon Community at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary and one count of possession of a knife.

Detective Garda Maurice Hickey outlined the allegations against Jackson, who burgled AJ Tyres on Boreenmanna Rd at 10.40pm on April 22 and tried to get into three cars parked outside.

The second burglary offence related to a break-in at Jeremiah O’Connor’s funeral home on Boreenmanna Rd about 20 minutes later.

Finally, there was a burglary at a house at Bellfield Abbey nearby half an hour after that, while armed with a knife.

In the course of that burglary, he confronted two young Spanish men who were living at the house.
