A discussion forum on sustaining arts and cultural events at night in Cork will be held on Monday evening, and free tickets are still available.

The Arts Council is hosting its second Night-Time Culture Forum at 5pm on Monday, October 21, at the Millennium Hall on Eglington Street.

The event will include talks and discussion panels on night-time related topics, in line with the Arts Council’s aim that delegates are inspired to work collaboratively as they consider how to make cities and towns feel attractive to residents and visitors at night.

Expert speakers at the event will include Carly Heath, Bristol’s first night-time economy advisor and chair of Bristol Nights, and Louise Bruton, arts journalist, playwright, disability rights activist, DJ and author.

Joining them will be Robbie Kitt, musician, DJ, activist, community facilitator and stalwart of the electronic music scene in Ireland, and Candy Warhol, one of Ireland’s most renowned drag acts and an acclaimed international host, performer and DJ.

Partnership

The forum is being held in partnership with the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and Cork City Council.

It is as part of the Government’s Night-Time Economy Initiative, which aims to enhance and sustain the cultural life of cities and towns after dark, in line with economic growth, public safety, cultural development, and social well-being.

Maureen Kennelly, director of the Arts Council, said it was the wish of the council that the arts be accessible to all, and part of that included working together to develop arts events at night-time.

“We are proud to host our second forum that will discuss and explore this potential and will bring a variety of people together.

“Leading experts, artists, venue managers, night-time advisers and innovators can better understand and promote together the importance night culture has in shaping our world.”

Tickets to the forum are free and available at https://tinyurl.com/56vsfnn7.
