Case against man charged in relation to alleged part in robbery of French students in Cork city adjourned
The case against the late Daena Walsh, 27, of the same address, was also called in court and Sgt. Davis told Judge O’Leary that Ms Walsh is deceased.
The case against a man charged in relation to his alleged part in the robbery of a young French visitor in Cork City Centre has been adjourned until October 24 to allow time for DPP directions.
Adam Corcoran, 29, with an address at an apartment at John Barry House, Midleton, County Cork, had his case adjourned by Judge Philip O’Leary, on the application of Sergeant Gearóid Davis.
The case against the late Daena Walsh, 27, of the same address, was also called in court and Sgt. Davis told Judge O’Leary that Ms Walsh is deceased.
Detective Garda Conor Cronin previously outlined the background to the charge of robbery at St. Patrick’s Street, Cork, on Tuesday evening (July 23), faced by Mr Corcoran.
Det. Garda Cronin said, “A group of French students in their early teens and their teachers were walking on St. Patrick’s Street at 10.20 p.m. on July 23. They were on a school tour to Ireland.
“It is alleged that a male and female approached the group of children… The female began shouting at (one of the students, believing the teenager was laughing at her) and grabbed her Samsung phone out of her hand putting her in fear.
“The female then tried to leave with the phone and she was stopped by one of the French teachers who tried to get the phone back. The teacher and the female fell to the ground during the altercation.
“It is alleged that the male intervened and approached the teacher and struck him up to ten times in the back and upper body with a screwdriver.”
There had been no objection to bail being granted to the late Ms Walsh in July.
Mr Corcoran was also released on bail despite garda objections to bail in his case.
