The HSE Cork North Community Work Department is set to deliver a free dementia information evening in Charleville.

The event is being run as part of a series of free community dementia information evenings across Cork in partnership with The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI) and The North Cork Dementia Alliance.

The free event will take place on Wednesday from 6.30pm to 9pm at Charleville Park Hotel where attendees will hear from guest speakers who have first-hand experience of dementia.

Guest speakers will include Charlie Drake who is living with a diagnosis of dementia, Ann Cunningham who is a family carer, Dr Emma Jennings who is a consultant geriatrician, Amy Murphy who is a dementia advisor with the ASI, Sheena Cadoo who is an occupational therapist, and North Cork Dementia Alliance together with Kevin Quaid, member of the Irish Dementia Working Group.

People living with a dementia diagnosis and their carers will also gain key information on the community-based supports and advocacy services available.

HSE principal community worker with Cork North Community Work Department, Sorcha Ní Chrualaoich, said: “We are delighted to be able to bring this dementia information event to North Cork, which builds on the success of previous events held in Cork city and county.

“These events are made possible through collaboration between the HSE and community and voluntary partners and we hope that they will be beneficial to local families living with a diagnosis of dementia.”

The dementia information evenings are open to anyone living with a diagnosis of dementia, family carers, health care support assistants (formerly known as home helps), professionals or those with an interest in learning more about dementia.

Those who want to book a place at the event can phone 021 4928389 or email Ciara.Murphy36@hse.ie.
