The Lord Mayor of Cork Dan Boyle has said he is looking forward to seeing people avail of the variety of arts and cultural offerings across the city for the 19th edition of Culture Night this Friday.

Culture Night promotes Cork’s rich and varied culture with the late opening of many cultural venues and unique events programmed for one night only.

“Cork has a rich and varied culture which we can celebrate with pride on Culture Night,” Mr Boyle said.

“With about 80 venues there is no end of choice, with a variety of events to be enjoyed free for all the family. The only downside is we can’t be everywhere at once.”

Cork City Council is offering a range of events at City Hall, from an exhibition about six-a-side football to chamber music in the concert hall.

Cork’s own Vanbrugh and Friends will perform a programme including Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms with two sessions, one at 7pm and one at 9pm in the Concert Hall, with other shows and tours of the Lord Mayor’s Chambers also lines up.

University College Cork (UCC) is presenting a cohesive series of events in several locations indoor and out across several locations on the main campus and also in the nearby Granary Theatre.

Cork City Library will host an array of events including a choral performance from Voiceworks, readings from Cork Stories, a performance by Irene Kelleher, plus Jimmy Crowley and Eve Telford singing a selection of Cork songs.

People are invited to explore 18th-century fashion in Nano Nagle Place with their latest art exhibition or take to the stage in their open mic session.
