A woman was rescued in Cork today following reports of a person in difficulty on the cliff-face at a popular beach.
The incident, which happened shortly after 6pm, saw one woman brought to safety after being “cut off” by the tide at Garrylucas Beach near Kinsale.
The woman had gotten stuck halfway up the cliff, and a report was issued to the Valentia Coast Guard Station by members of the Kinsale Gardaí.
Following the report, the Coast Guard Rescue 117 helicopter was deployed from Waterford, alongside the Old Head of Kinsale Coast Guard unit and the Courtmacsherry Lifeboat team.
Upon arrival, at approximately 6.30pm, a winchman was lowered from the helicopter and lifted the woman to the top of the cliff into the hands of the Coast Guard team.
All units were then stood down at approximately 7.50pm.
A spokesperson for the Valentia Coast Guard Station confirmed that once the casualty was brought atop the cliff, she did not require any further medical attention.
“She was high and dry, and stayed where she was, she didn’t panic,” they said.
“She didn’t need any further medical assistance - she was fine.”
