Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the serious assault of a man in Cork City on Friday.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the Cork city scene of an assault in which an adult male was left seriously injured on Friday evening, a spokesman for the gardaí has confirmed in a statement.

It is understood the man was stabbed during the incident.

Gardaí responded to the call shortly after 5pm and were quickly on the scene of the incident at the junction of Grand Parade and Oliver Plunkett Street in the city centre.

A garda spokesperson said a male in his late 30s was found at the scene with serious injuries.

“He received treatment at the scene and was then transported to the Cork University Hospital.

“His injuries are understood to be serious but not life-threatening," said the spokesperson.

"A technical and forensic examination of the scene has been completed, and investigations are ongoing."

The spokesperson said gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this assault to come forward.

They are also appealing to road users and pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash cams) from the Grand Parade/Oliver Plunkett Street area between 4.30pm and 5.30pm to make this footage available to gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station at 021 452 2000, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station," said the spokesperson.
