Man hospitalised following Co Cork assault

A man, who gardaí said is in his 30s, was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.

A man in his 30s was taken to hospital on Tuesday evening following an alleged assault in a Cork town.

The incident occurred shortly after 6pm when gardaí responded to a reported assault outside a commercial premises in Carrignafoy in Cobh.

A man, who gardaí said is in his 30s, was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.

Gardaí said a man in his 50s was subsequently arrested and was detained in a garda station in Co Cork under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Images shared on social media showed a large garda presence at the scene of the incident.

A garda spokesperson told The Echo: “Shortly after 6 pm, gardaí were alerted to an incident in which a man was assaulted outside a premises in Carrignafoy, Cobh.

“The injured man, a male in his 30s was transported to Cork University Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

“A man in his 50s was subsequently arrested and is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Cork,” the spokesperson said.
