A new development will see the creation of up to 30 permanent roles in a busy Cork tourist town.

Aldi Ireland has confirmed that a new €11m store will be built on the New Road in Kinsale.

In addition to the 30 new in-store roles, the development's construction period will also support up to 50 jobs.

Cork County Council had previously granted planning permission for the project, which includes 102 car parking spaces, nine motorcycle spaces, 24 bike spaces and four electric vehicle charging points.

However, that decision was subsequently appealed to An Bord Pleanála, which upheld the council's decision.

The 1,315sq m store was designed in Aldi’s award-winning Project Fresh layout.

Youth café

The new single story retail building will incorporate a health food shop and a youth café, green roof, rooftop solar panels and rooftop planting, outdoor gym equipment and relatedancillary works.

Additional works will facilitate the creation of roadway access and modifications to the existing pedestrian access from the New Road to Barrack Street and all associated site development, landscaping, boundary treatment and drainage works.

Colin Breslin, managing director of buying and services with Aldi Ireland Ireland, said: “We are delighted that An Bord Pleanála have given the green light for the development of our new store in Kinsale.

“Every new Aldi store brings greater choice, quality, and value to shoppers, while creating important well-paid jobs in the community.

“We look forward to developing and opening the store.

“As outlined in our report ‘The Financial Impact of Ireland’s Planning System Delays on the Irish Consumer’, published last September, Aldi stores bring monthly savings of €78,333 to the communities they operate in.

“Our goal is to deliver this value within reach of every town, village, and rural community in Ireland, and we have ambitious plans to expand our store network.”
