Fans of legendary musician Alice Coltrane, disappointed not to have secured tickets for a celebration of the celebrated pianist and harpist at the Guinness Jazz Festival in October, will be relieved at the announcement that a second night of the event has been confirmed by organisers.

The event to celebrate the musician, who died in 2007, will now feature internationally acclaimed harpist Alina Bzhezhinska, distinguished composer, musician and legendary Gil Scott-Heron collaborator Brian Jackson, and celebrated saxophonist Tony Kofi at the Triskel Arts Centre on consecutive nights, Thursday, October 24, as well as the previously scheduled and sold out concert on Friday, October 25.

Showcase

The programme for the concerts will showcase the most revered works by Alice Coltrane, pieces such as ‘Journey in Satchidananda’, ‘Shiva Loka’ and ‘Ptah the El Daoud’ and the trio will also perform original compositions, which are inspired by Ms Coltrane’s work.

At the Triskel Arts Centre events, Alina Bzhezhinska will be on harp and electronics, Brian Jackson will be on keyboard and flute, while Tony Kofi will be on saxophone and they will be supported by Mikele Montolli on bass and Joel Prime on drums/percussion.

More than 1,000 musicians from over 20 countries will feature in this year’s jazz extravaganza, the 46th edition of the festival which traditionally takes place over the October Bank Holiday period.

Tickets for the second performance of Celebrating Alice Coltrane - Alina Bzhezhinska & HipHarp Collective featuring Brian Jackson on Thursday, October 24, are now on sale from the festival website at https://guinnesscorkjazz.com.
