Residents on a northside road have been asked to move their vehicles on Wednesday or risk being blocked in during a public lighting upgrade.

The works, which are scheduled to occur between 8am and 5pm on Wednesday, July 24, will be carried out by Electric Skyline, the public lighting maintenance contractor for Cork City Council.

The work will involve the LED upgrade of five new public lighting lamps and associated works, including related trenching and ducting.

The public lighting upgrade works will start in Upper Janemount, in Sunday’s Well, on Wednesday morning, with workers proceeding down Buxton Hill towards Sunday’s Well Road as their work progresses.

A notice, received by residents on Tuesday morning reads: “We would kindly ask if you would accommodate our crews by moving your vehicle to avoid [being] blocked in or causing an obstruction to the works’ progression.

“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause while thses essential works are underway.” Mark Daly, project manager with Electric Skyline, told The Echo that Buxton Hill would not be closed off during the works, but the road will be intermittently blocked as the works are carried out.

“Ideally, the cars will get out ahead of us, and we would ask residents to try and accommodate us by moving their cars ahead of us as we work.

“All going well, we would hope to have the work completed in half a day, but if we have to stop and start to let people in and out, it could take the day, so we would ask residents to work with us if they can at all,” Mr Daly said.

In all, there are five lamps which will be upgraded in the area, one approximately halfway up Buxton Hill, three in Upper Janemount and on in Lower Janemount.

Although Janemount and Buxton Hill are in a relatively quiet part of the city, dozens of homes are located in the area, with vehicles using the road throughout the day.
