Watch: All aboard the love train as Cork couple catch the train to their own wedding

One Cork couple has started married life on the right track and added an element of carriage to their marriage, traveling to their wedding with Irish Rail.

Bride, Lucy Kelly from Kilmichael and Groom, Tadgh Dennehy from Cork city exchanged vows on Sunday and opted for a more unusual way to travel to their big day.

Wishing to have a more sustainable wedding, the pair ditched the traditional wedding car and instead caught the train to their nuptials.

The couple and their wedding party travelled to the ceremony at Sirius Arts centre, Cobh on the train from Kent Station to Cobh and also returned by train to their reception, which was held at Isaac’s restaurant in MacCurtain Street.

The newlyweds were wished well by Ray Foley, Kent Station Master and Lelia Graham of Irish Rail and they set out on their journey from the Cork station.

Having met while studying at UCC and having been together since 2016, Mr and Mrs Dennehy decided to travel by train as they are passionate about sustainability.

“We just thought, instead of bringing 100 people down to Cobh by car, what a beautiful way to incorporate a fun element into our day,” the bride explained.

She continued: “Of course, it is hugely sustainable, and the train cuts a path that no car can go, cutting through the water and giving a lovely Cork backdrop to our day.” 

Her husband added: “And after cycling, it’s the best way to travel.”
