Aidan O’Connor has celebrated his 200th ‘shout’ with the RNLI Crosshaven Lifeboat station.

The first to attain the achievement at the station, Mr O’Connor has been a helm for 24 years, since the station opened in 2000.

His 200th ‘shout’ began at the weekend with a request from Valentia Coast Guard to the volunteer crew to assist a motor boat with engine problems on the Carlane Bank.

The crew made good progress in calm conditions before boarding the vessel and establishing a tow to the owner’s mooring at Drakes Pool on the Owenabue River.

The lifeboat crew were Aidan, Ian Venner, David Venner and Conor Barry. The shore crew included Moira Kavanagh, Denise Marionne, Hugh Mockler, Alan Venner, James Fegan and Susanne Deane and launch authority was given by Hugh Tully.

The lifeboat returned to the station at 8.55pm on Saturday and was recovered, washed down, and refuelled, before being declared ready for service again at 9.30pm that night.
