Shane O'Sullivan, digital and marketing manager with Cork City Council, said the event offers an opportunity for the council to focus on engaging with its own staff, and with the public, to emphasise the contribution it makes to daily life in the community.

Friday is ‘Your Council Day’, an annual event in which all 31 of Ireland’s local authorities promote the work they do, and Cork City Council will take to social and traditional media to highlight its own services and contributions.

Shane O’Sullivan, digital and marketing manager with Cork City Council, said the event offers an opportunity for the council to focus on engaging with its own staff, and with the public, to emphasise the contribution it makes to daily life in the community.

“As a local authority, Cork City Council provides over 1,074 services to the people of Cork, from housing, key infrastructure development, parks and cemetery management, the provision of community supports, planning, libraries, supporting the city’s arts and cultural life, and much more.

“Each day, our staff work to support the city’s communities, and ‘Your Council Day’ provides us the opportunity to highlight, promote, and celebrate the work of my colleagues who are working to make Cork the place to work, live, study, and invest in,” Mr O’Sullivan said.

The day will see local authorities across the country take to X, formerly known as Twitter, to Instagram, and to Facebook, to highlight the work they do, and Mr O’Sullivan will be promoting the city council’s work.

“Over a 13-hour period, we will be releasing content every 15 minutes across the three platforms, and I will be highlighting initiatives across housing, infrastructure, and sustainability, with content focused on staff in terms of their role, as well as community initiatives, and corporate information such as ambassadorial visits.

“We’ll also be publicising operational information, and how we manage key events such as St Patrick’s Day, Cork City Marathon, the Carnival of Science, as well as parks, operations work from graves to road repairs and so on,” he said.

On social media, posts relating to Your Council Day will use the hashtag #YourCouncilDay or DoLáSaChomhairle.
