Update: Services from Heuston station have now resumed following an earlier incident on the train from Dublin to Cork.

A spokesperson for Iarnród Éireann told The Echo that passengers were detrained after smoke was reported during the journey.

"There was smoke reported from a bogie (wheel set unit) under one carriage and the fire brigade were alerted.

"The issue was confined to this area and did not pose any risk to the passenger area. There was no injury or risk of injury to anyone.

"The train came to a halt a short distance past Clondalkin Fonthill Station and staff arranged to detrain the passengers to bring them back to the platform, stopping services through the area while this was done.

"Passengers were accommodated on two following trains. We apologise to customers for the delay and disruption this caused," they said.

Earlier: Services from Heuston station are set to resume following an incident on the 4pm train from Dublin to Cork.

Earlier this evening, Iarnród Éireann took to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, to advise that services had been suspended between Heuston and Hazelhatch in Dublin until further notice due to a “mechanical issue” on 4pm train from Dublin to Cork.

The rail operator said staff and emergency services personnel were detraining passengers.

It said alternative services were being arranged.

The line has now reopened between Hazelhatch and Heuston.

Iarnród Éireann said services out of Heuston are now set to resume, but that there are “significant delays” as a result of the earlier incident.
