Driver on 12-year disqualification caught behind the wheel in Cork city

A driver on a 12-year disqualification was arrested by Gardaí in Cork city after they were found behind the wheel of a car this weekend.

The banned motorist was apprehended driving when Gardaí were on patrol as part of their road safety enforcement operation for the May bank holiday weekend.

Gardaí in Cork city were on patrol over the weekend when they checked their mobility device which showed this car had no insurance.

It turns out the driver is on a 12-year disqualification.

“Gardaí in Cork city were on patrol over the weekend when they checked their mobility device which showed this car had no insurance,” An Garda Síochána said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“It turns out the driver is on a 12-year disqualification. Driver was arrested and the car seized.” 

Using mobile technology, Gardaí can, since 2017, instantly access information about tax, insurance, NCT and other details from the roadside by scanning a vehicle’s registration plate.

They can also scan a driving licence and access real time information which has proved successful in identifying false or forged driving licences and disqualified drivers.
