Third motorcyclist killed in Cork in less than 72 hours

The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, was fatally injured. No other injuries have been reported.

A MALE motorcyclist, aged in his 40s, has died following a road traffic collision in Cork this morning.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal incident shortly before 8am.

The incident, which involved a motorcycle and a truck, occurred at Toureenfineen, near the Cork-Kerry border.

The man's body is due to be removed to Cork University Hospital (CUH) where a post-mortem will take place.

The road remains closed at this time, with local diversions set in place.

No other injuries related to this collision have been reported.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are currently carrying out their examination of the scene.

It is the third road death involving a motorcyclist in Cork in less than 72 hours. 

Niall Murphy, from the Wilton Road, was fatally injured following a single vehicle collision which occurred on the R579 at Glen South, Banteer, at approximately 6.45pm on Sunday.

On Tuesday, a motorcyclist in his 20s was fatally injured in an incident involving a motorbike and a van, that occurred shortly before 6pm in Ballinahina, White’s Cross.
