RENOWNED Cork-based charity The Hope Foundation (Hope) has announced the appointment of Alex Kendellen as its newest ambassador.
Mr Kendellen, a Cork native, plays as a flanker for Munster Rugby and is currently studying for a BSc in food marketing and entrepreneurship in the Department of Food Business and Development (FBD), which is headed up by long-standing Hope board member, Dr Mary O’Shaughnessy.
“I’m delighted to be a part of The Hope Foundation and look forward to supporting Hope’s efforts in improving the lives of street-connected and slum-dwelling communities in Kolkata, India,” the rugby pro commented.
With Hope celebrating its 25th anniversary, the charity said the addition of Mr Kendellen as an ambassador “further strengthens the organisation’s commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those in need”.
As a professional rugby player and having already captained Munster and Ireland Under 20s, it said Mr Kendellen is “no stranger to dedication and hard work, qualities that align closely with The Hope Foundation’s values of resilience and compassion”.
His involvement with the organisation will help raise awareness and support for its programmes, which provide vital services such as healthcare, education, and vocational training to vulnerable populations.
Hope runs 58 projects in Kolkata, including 10 residential childcare centres, five creches and a hospital.
“We are delighted to welcome Alex on board as a new ambassador for Hope during our 25th anniversary year,” said Maureen Forrest, founding president of The Hope Foundation.
“His enthusiasm and dedication will help further our mission and positively impact our efforts in Kolkata, India.”
The news of the charity’s latest ambassador comes as last week Hope announced that Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons will attend The Hope Foundation’s annual Cork Lunch 2024 on Friday.
Long associated with the charity, Irons was recently appointed its special ambassador for its 25th anniversary this year.
