Cobh held a public ceremony of remembrance for all who lost their lives in the Titanic disaster in 1912. The East Cork town, famously known as the final port of call for the ill-fated ship, honoured the memory of those who lost their lives when the Titanic sank on its maiden voyage to New York in 1912.

THE names of 79 passengers who boarded the Titanic in Cobh, formerly Queenstown, were read aloud yesterday at a special ceremony in the Cork harbour town to mark the 112th anniversary of the ill-fated ocean liner’s visit to the port on its maiden and last voyage.

The remembrance ceremony was preceded by a march to the town’s Titanic memorial by a colour party from the Cobh branch of the Irish Army Ex-Servicemen, while prayers were also said.

The Commodore Male Voice Choir sang a musical tribute to those who perished.

The town is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world with an interest in the Titanic, and is home to a museum packed with memorabilia of the voyage, called the Titanic Experience.
