Communications Workers' Union (CWU) members at An Post have voted in favour of a two-year pay agreement.

The two-year pay deal commences on January 1st, 2026, and expires on December 31st, 2027.

Independent auditors confirmed that 86.7 per cent of members’ ballots returned voted in favour of accepting the agreement.

The agreement provides for the following pay increases:

  • 2 per cent increase effective from January 1st, 2026;
  • 1 per cent increase effective from July 1st, 2026;
  • 2 per cent increase effective from January 1st, 2027.

A €650 voucher, pro rata for part time staff, will be issued in October 2026.

During this period there will be no new cost increasing claims permitted.

Pensionable increases will be applied to the pensionable pay scales as per the agreed Pension Agreement, with a 2 per cent pensionable increase from January 1st, 2026.

There will be up to 2 per cent pensionable increase from January 1st, 2025, subject to CPI for this year.

CWU general secretary, Seán McDonagh, said: “The approval of our members at An Post for this agreement is very welcome.

"While it will provide certainty in earnings terms, our Union’s focus now turns to the obligations on government to respond to the higher inflationary costs for workers fueled by recent Budgets, and the government’s willingness to cave-in to sectoral demands instead of a fairer and broader response to support workers and their families.

"In this regard, we fully support the demands of ICTU.”
