A LEADING homelessness charity is calling on Cork walkers to join in a fundraising challenge in Northern Spain.

Focus Ireland has launched its annual Camino De Santiago fundraising challenge, and this year, the charity aims to gather 20 walkers to journey along the last 115km of The Camino, from Sarria to Santiago De Compostela.

Recognising that not everyone can commit to a month-long pilgrimage, Focus Ireland is offering walkers the opportunity to experience the final stage of The Camino while raising vital funds to combat homelessness.

Pat Dennigan, CEO of Focus Ireland, who makes annual trips to the Camino, said he was excited to launch the walk.

“The Camino journey is not just about the physical challenge — it’s about solidarity, self-discovery, and making a meaningful impact on the lives of those experiencing homelessness,” he said.

The seven-night trip will consist of five walking days, covering varying distances of at least 20km each.

Participants will traverse diverse terrains, including villages, forests, rivers, and towns as they soak in the sights, sounds, and culture of Spain along the way.

Lorraine Toner, head of community fundraising at Focus Ireland, said the walk offered an opportunity to support some of the charity’s vital services.

“Every kilometre walked could make a difference to the 1,916 individuals currently experiencing homelessness or the 4,000 children in emergency accommodation,” she emphasised.

The charity said participants would receive comprehensive fundraising support to achieve their goals, as well as guidance and preparation tips. The goal of the challenge is to raise €50,000, enabling Focus Ireland to expand the reach of its services.
