A Macroom man is taking on a 346km ultra marathon run across Scotland in aid of West Cork Rapid Response.
Charles Murphy is aiming to complete the gruelling challenge in under 100 hours.
Starting on August 8 on the west coast of Scotland at Port Patrick, he will trek across rough terrain, mountains valleys and ancient forests, before targeting to reach the east coast of Scotland at Cockburnspath on August 12.
West Cork Rapid Response is a volunteer-based emergency medical service providing advanced pre-hospital care across West Cork, working alongside the National Ambulance Service.
Mr Murphy chose to fundraise for West Cork Rapid Response after seeing them in action when a family member needed their services.
“Dr Jason van der Velde was called on to attend an emergency situation. The speed he arrived in and the impressive and professional way he handled the situation ensured the best possible outcome.”
West Cork Rapid Response is a volunteer-led organisation, providing critical life saving emergency medical care, supporting the existing HSE emergency medical services across our west Cork community.
It is self-funded and all funds raised go directly to the services they provide.
