Met Éireeann has issued a weather warning for Cork and Kerry and is advising that heavy rain could lead to localised flooding.

The yellow rain warning will be in effect from 3pm on Monday until 3pm on Tuesday.

The forecaster said that spells of rain Monday and Tuesday coupled with high tides and onshore winds would lead to wave overtopping and localised flooding.

It coincides with a period of high astronomical tides which is due to continue until Tuesday.

On Friday, Cork City Council advised householders and businesses in low-lying parts of the city to take the necessary precautions to protect property during the periods of high tides at the weekend which had been predicted to cause minor localised flooding along low-lying quays.
