'We will miss him in court': Tributes paid to Cork garda moving to new role 

Sergeant Pat Lyons is moving on from being a court presenter for the prosecution in Cork District Court to being a detective sergeant in Togher.

Judge Mary Dorgan said: “I would like to pay tribute to Pat Lyons, who is going on to a new role in criminal matters, moving to Togher.

“We are going to miss him. He dealt with cases with great good humour and efficiency: It is not an easy job. We have been delighted to have him in court. He is going on to an even brighter future. I wish him well.”

Dáire Coughlan, registrar, said on behalf of the court staff: “We will miss him in court. He is a great communicator.”

Frank Buttimer, solicitor, on behalf of legal practitioners, said that Sgt Lyons had shown considerable skills and professionalism in advocacy.

Mr Buttimer said that Sgt Lyons and his court presenter colleagues, Sgt Gearóid Davis and Sgt John Kelleher, were operating with great professionalism in the epicentre of prosecution work in the district court.

“We will miss you in the court environs,” he said.

Sgt Lyons, now Detective Sergeant Lyons, thanked the parties for their kind wishes and for their co-operation throughout his four years as a court presenter.
