ACTOR and activist Jeremy Irons has been appointed a special ambassador for The Hope Foundation for their 25th anniversary celebrations.

The actor, who lives in West Cork, is a long-standing advocate for Hope’s work and will lend his voice to raise awareness and support for their vital work.

With his support The Hope Foundation, founded 25 years ago, aims to amplify its efforts in transforming the lives of marginalised children and their families and communities in Kolkata, India.

Since 1999, HOPE has touched the lives of nearly three million people, providing essential services in the areas of education, healthcare, child protection and vocational training.

Projects

The charity runs 56 projects in the city including four creches, 10 residential childcare centres and a state-of-the-art hospital.

Hope’s 25th anniversary celebrations will serve as a platform to celebrate past achievements, showcase ongoing initiatives, and inspire continued support for their life-changing programmes.

Mr Irons, who visited Hope projects in Kolkata in 2019, said: “I am honoured to serve as special ambassador for The Hope Foundation as they mark this significant milestone.

“The work they do in Kolkata is truly life-changing, providing hope and opportunity to those who need it most,” Mr Irons said.

“For 25 years, they have been a beacon of light and compassion. But their work isn’t finished. They remain dedicated to ensuring that every child remains healthy and has access to education.

“We all have our part to play because merely talking of change is not enough — please help them make this a reality and donate whatever you can.

“I look forward to supporting their efforts and shining a light on their remarkable achievements.”

Strong bond

Speaking on behalf of The Hope Foundation, founder and president Maureen Forrest said: “The children of The Hope Foundation share a strong bond with Mr Jeremy Irons.

“He is not only multi-talented but also multi-faceted,” Ms Forrest said.

“He also has the power to influence change. He is a very approachable person with a human heart and we are honoured to have him as an ambassador and friend of Hope.”
