Three Cork charities are set to benefit this year from the Lord Mayor’s annual spring ball.

The black-tie charity event will be hosted by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Councillor Kieran McCarthy, at the Rochestown Park Hotel, on Friday, April 12.

This year’s ball is in aid of three local charities: the Rainbow Club, the Mercy University Hospital Foundation and the Cork Mental Health Foundation.

This year’s ball will include a drinks reception, four course meal, and live music, with the MC for the evening actor Shane Casey of the Young Offenders, and after dinner entertainment provided by the Roaring 40s.

Speaking at the launch of the ball, Mr McCarthy said building communities has been one of the key priorities of the Lord Mayor’s office.

“My charity ball is a key community awareness initiative which has togetherness at its heart. I hope to raise as much money as possible to help very worthwhile charities whilst also having dinner, music and fun,” he said.

Micheál Sheridan, CEO of the Mercy University Hospital Foundation, said the Mercy University Hospital had a longstanding connection with the Lord Mayor of Cork, with the hospital once the site of the old mansion house, which was built in 1767 for the mayor of Cork.

“Funds raised through this new partnership will support ongoing projects at the Mercy University Hospital that will benefit cancer patients and their families long into the future, including the new Mercy Cancer Care Centre that will open its doors to patients in March,” Mr Sheridan said.

Brendan McCarthy, CEO of the Cork Mental Health Foundation, thanked the Lord Mayor for choosing Cork Mental Health as one of the charities to benefit from this year’s ball.

“We will use those funds to support our work throughout the city, such as Joy in the Park and The Next Step,” he said.

Tickets for the Ball can be purchased through www.corkcity.ie and are priced at €120 each. For further information about the Lord Mayors Charity Ball, contact Eannai_OSullivan@corkcity.ie
