Young man who died in Cork collision on Sunday morning named

The young man who passed away following a single vehicle collision near Passage West on Sunday morning has been named locally.

The man in his 20s was named as Ricky Barry.

Mr Barry was the driver of the car that was involved in a single vehicle collision, which occurred at approximately 2.30am in the townland of Rathanker near Passage West.

The other two occupants of the car were taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment of their injuries, which are understood to be non-life threatening.

Sharing his condolences, Fine Gael councillor for the Carrigaline Municipal District, Jack White, said: “My sincere condolences go to the young man's family and friends.” “This is such a heartbreaking tragedy for our wider community and has come as a shock to us all."

The death of Mr Barry was further described by Fianna Fáil councillor for the Carrigaline Municipal District, Seamus McGrath, as "a tragic loss.” 

Independent councillor for the Carrigaline Municipal District , Marcia D’Alton said the incident as “devastating” for the man's family and the  community.
