Bitter conditions have been forecast for the coming days with temperatures expected to dip below zero at times.

According to Met Éireann’s latest outlook for Munster, patches of frost and ice may form overnight as temperatures fall to lows of -1 to 3 degrees.

Tomorrow will see another bright and cold day with highest temperatures of around 5 to 8 degrees in “moderate to fresh northwest winds”.

Over the weekend, maximum values will fare no better than about 8 degrees, with the national outlook stating that parts of the country could experience lows of -3 degrees.

It will be “very cold” on Saturday night in particular, according to the weather forecaster, with “widespread frost developing along with some icy patches”.

“Areas of mist and fog will form with the potential for some pockets of freezing fog.

“Lowest temperatures generally ranging from -3 to zero degrees in light variable breezes or near calm conditions,” the national forecast says.

Sunday will get off to a cold and frosty start.

Mist and fog will “struggle to clear in many inland areas”, lingering throughout much of the day.

Where mist or fog clears it will be dry and mostly sunny, however, reaching highs of between 2 and 5 degrees.

It will be another cold and frosty night on Sunday night with some mist or fog at first.

However, a “moderate southeast breeze” will develop later allowing a few showers to drift in to Irish Sea coastal areas and clearing much of the fog.

Lowest temperatures on Sunday night will be around -3 to 2 degrees.
